How to Create A Relaxing Home

~ This is a featured post. ~

Anxiety disorders are difficult to deal with. Physically, you look perfectly well, but inside, you’re a mess. Many people with anxiety disorders spend a lot of time at home because they can’t face the outside world. It’s hard to be sociable or do simple things like shopping when you are afraid of having a panic attack. Whatever the root cause of your anxiety, whether it’s stress or you have a speech disorder which makes communication difficult – you can learn more about stuttering by visiting the stutteringdoctor.com - it’s important to create a relaxing home environment where you can feel safe and secure.

The good news is that you don’t even need to venture out to give your home a makeover. Everything can be bought online these days and delivered straight to your front door. For people with extreme anxiety, this is a godsend.

Choose a Colour Scheme
The first thing you need to do is choose a color scheme. Certain colours are known for their stress-reducing properties. Pale gray, lavender, and cool blue are all deeply relaxing shades. Consider one of these colors if you need to create a more relaxing vibe in your living room or bedroom. Pale gray is very fashionable right now. Go for warm grays rather than dark, gun-metal gray, or it can feel a bit oppressive. Paired with a warm cream or soft lavender, a muted gray is very calming.

Once you have your main color in mind, the next step is to select some furnishings to match. Go with neutral, light colors for larger items, such as a couch or a bed. Dark, oppressive furniture is not relaxing and will make the room feel much smaller.

Declutter the Room
Now you have made the most important decisions, it is time to declutter the space. Clutter is the enemy of calm and relaxation. Being surrounded by mess and clutter is incredibly stressful, especially on a subliminal level. Remove everything you don’t need in your life and reorganize what’s left. You can sell unwanted furniture online or donate it to a charity store – most will collect donations at a time to suit you.

Ask a friend to help you with the painting; you can easily do this in one weekend. Once the walls and woodwork are painted, start arranging the furniture where you feel it works best. Plan your design on paper first, so you don’t end up moving heavy items into positions that don’t work.

Maximize Natural Light
Natural light is important. Sitting in a dark, oppressive room is depressing. Get rid of heavy drapes and replace them with voile panels to let as much natural light in as you can. If natural light is limited, hang mirrors to reflect light back into the room. Use strategically placed lamps to boost light late in the day.

Hang some pictures you love. Gazing at beautiful artwork is a great mood booster, so invest in a painting created by a local artist. Buy some pretty throw cushions and a rug to add a touch of color.

By the time you finish your project, your home will feel like a calming oasis. Isn’t that something to be proud of?
